By Igor Goldshmidt, Testing & Quality Engineering Expert In my work at Skipper Soft, I talk to developers daily. Many of them are sharp, talented professionals building complex systems. However, when we delve into the topic of testing, I often observe the same pattern: they write tests because they have to, rather than because they…
By Igor Goldshmidt, Testing & Quality Engineering Expert When I first started consulting development teams on quality, I’d often hear: “Why should I care about testing? That’s not my responsibility.” But the rules of the game have changed. With DevOps, Agile, and CI/CD — if you’re writing code, you’re already part of the quality equation….
By Eduard Dubilyer, CTO & Automation Testing Expert at Skipper Soft Let’s start with a confession: I used to love singletons. When I was working with Java-based automation frameworks, the Singleton pattern felt like a clever shortcut. Want a single WebDriver instance shared across tests? Singleton. Need access to configuration from anywhere? Singleton. It seemed…
By Eduard Dubilyer, CTO & Automation Testing Expert at Skipper Soft As automated test suites grow, so does their complexity—and if you don’t apply architectural patterns early, maintenance becomes a bottleneck. At Skipper Soft, we encountered this first-hand while scaling our test automation framework built with Playwright and TypeScript. The Factory Pattern emerged as one…
By Eduard Dublier, Automation Expert & CTO of Skipper Soft In today’s tech-driven world, where software development is the heartbeat of innovation, the structure and principles behind your code can make or break your product’s quality. That’s where design patterns come in. In this article, I want to walk you through how leveraging design patterns—specifically…
By Igor Goldshmidt, Testing & Quality Engineering Expert When I started in QA, the job felt straightforward: test features, find bugs, repeat. My mission was clear: verify functionality and report what was broken. But as I gained experience, I noticed something uncomfortable: The most damaging bugs were created long before the first line of code…
By Eduard Dublyer, CTO of Skipper Soft A Quick Disclaimer Before We Begin At Skipper Soft, we generally do not recommend using xPath as the default way to locate elements in UI automation. If you’re building a modern, scalable automation suite, you’re much better off with: They’re faster, more readable, and often more maintainable. However,…
By Eduard Dublyer, CTO of Skipper Soft I’ve been in the automation game for nearly two decades, and I’ve worked with dozens of fast-moving startups across industries. Different tech stacks, different founders, different levels of chaos—but one pattern comes up every time: “We’ll automate testing later. We need to move fast.” That phrase is so…
By Eduard Dublyer, CTO of Skipper Soft Earlier this year, during a routine code audit of our automation toolkit at Skipper Soft, I encountered something unexpected. A long-standing script—used to manage I/O retries in one of our test environments—suddenly failed after upgrading to Python 3.14. The error pointed to a break statement buried inside a…
By Eduard Dublyer, CTO of Skipper Soft A few years ago, I worked with a logistics startup. The team was already writing automated tests. They had pipelines and stability reports—on paper, everything looked great. But bugs still slipped into production every single week. I asked one question: “Why exactly are you testing this?” There was…
